Launched in 2000, Skywards continues to attract new members extending its membership base to over six million members in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide.
Skywards has consistently demonstrated success in award recognition at the annual Freddies Awards - the 'Oscars' of customer loyalty programmes in the last three years, as well as previously, for Best Member Communications, Best Customer Service, and Best Award Redemption. Skywards has twice secured the coveted title of Programme of the Year and Best Web Site. This year, Skywards won the ''Freddie'' for Best Reward Promotion, Asia-Pacific. In 2006, the programme was named Best Loyalty Program by Middle East Traveller Magazine.

What is a Skywards Tier Mile?
Unlike Skywards Miles, which are the programmes reward currency and those used to redeem rewards, tier Miles are collected solely to help you move up the membership tiers. The only time you can earn tier Miles is when you fly with Emirates.
When you earn the required number of tier Miles, you will progress up the programme tiers to Skywards Silver and Skywards Gold membership. Tier Miles are earned and accumulated in any consecutive 12-13 month period.
Tier threshold required for Skywards Silver and Gold membership, between any consecutive 12-13 month period:
| | Qualify and maintain | | Silver | 25,000 tier Miles | | Gold | 50,000 tier Miles |
Skywards sometimes refers to Origin-Destination, what does this mean?
Origin is where you commence each leg of your journey, i.e. your first departure city or zone. Destination is where you end each leg of your journey, i.e. your final arrival city or zone (the farthest most point from your origin).
For example, if you buy a fare from London to Auckland, your origin point is London and your destination is Auckland. If you hold a return ticket, the same definition applies in the reverse direction. Thus, on your return leg your origin would be treated as Auckland and your destination as London.

| Membership Tiers |
What does Skywards mean by 'any consecutive 13 calendar month period' ?
Skywards allows you to accumulate tier miles across any 13 calendar months to move to a higher tier. Based on your travel history, a consecutive 13 calendar month period highlights the date by which you need to achieve any additional tier miles. Beyond this date your rolling tier period and any additional tier miles will refresh, again based on your travel history.
What are tier Miles and how long are they valid for?
Tier miles are used to determine your tier in the programme and are earned every time you take an Emirates flight (either a flight operated by Emirates, or an Emirates code-share flight). While your Skywards Miles can be redeemed for rewards, your tier Miles help you progress through the membership tiers to Silver and Gold. Tier miles you earn remain valid for up to 13-months from the day the earning begins.
How do I earn a higher tier?
To achieve a higher tier (Blue to Silver, or Silver to Gold) you will have to earn tier Miles over any consecutive 13 calendar month period. This will allow you a full 13 calendar month window to achieve a higher tier.
For example Miles earned from 01 January 2010 - 31st January 2011 or Miles earned from 01 February 2010 to 28 February 2011 etc.
Upon moving to a higher tier, how long do I keep it? How long will my card and tier status be valid?
If you move from Blue to Silver, or Silver to Gold, your review date will be one year from the month you achieve your new tier. In other words, you will have until the end of the same month the following year to achieve the required 25,000 or 50,000 tier miles to renew your tier. Your card and tier status always extend an additional two months beyond your review date. This gives you at least 14-months to enjoy your benefits and ensures we can deliver your new card to you in sufficient time.
For example, if you achieve Silver status on 17 March 2010, your Silver review date will be 31 March 2011. Your Silver status and membership card will be valid until 31 May 2011. If you qualify and renew your Silver tier on your review date of 31 March 2011, your next review date will be 31 March 2012 and we will send you a new membership card valid through to 31 May 2012.
How do I retain my Silver or Gold status?
When you earn 25,000 tier Miles on Emirates before your review date, you will retain your Silver status. When you earn 50,000 tier Miles on Emirates before your review date, you will retain your Gold status.
For example:
If it is your first year as a Gold member, we will count back to when you achieved your Gold status and add-up all the tier miles you have flown since then. For example, if you achieve your Gold status on 10 June 2010, your review date will be 30 June 2011. On your review date, we will therefore add up your tier miles earned between 10 June 2010 and 30 June 2011 (excluding the flight which earned you Gold status).
If it is your second or subsequent year as a Gold member, we will count back to your last review date and add-up all the tier miles you have flown since then. Continuing the above example, on your review date of 30 June 2012, we will therefore add up your tier miles earned between 1 July 2011 and 30 June 2012.
If you achieve your Silver status on 10 June 2010, your review date will be 30 June 2011. On your review date, we will therefore add up your tier miles earned between 10 June 2010 and 30 June 2011 (excluding the flight which earned you Silver status). If you are able to earn 25,000 tier Miles between 10 June 2010 and 30 June 2011, you will be able to retain your Silver tier status.
If it is your second or subsequent year as a Silver member, we will count back to your last review date and add-up all the tier miles you have flown since then. Continuing the above example, on your review date of 30 June 2012, we will therefore add up your tier miles earned between 1 July 2011 and 30 June 2012.

What does Skywards mean by ‘up to 13 Months’ to earn and retain a tier?
(a) To earn a higher tier (Blue to Silver, or Silver to Gold) we recognise your tier miles over any consecutive 13-month period. This allows you a full 13-month window to achieve a higher tier. For example:
| Tier miles counted from | Tier miles counted to | Time period | | 1 January 2009 | 31 January 2010 | 13 months | | 1 February 2009 | 28 February 2010 | 13 months | | 1 March 2009 | 31 March 2010 | 13 months | | etc ... | etc ... | 13 months |
(b) Upon achieving a higher tier, your status is valid for one year from the month you achieve it. Your review date is set to the end of the same month the following year. This means in your first year, you have between 12 and 13 months to retain your tier, depending on what day of the month you achieve it. For example:
| You earn a higher tier | Your review date | Time period to retain tier status | | 1 June 2010 | 30 June 2011 | 13 months | | 30 June 2010 | 30 June 2011 | 12 months | | 17 June 2010 | 30 June 2011 | 12 months & 14 days |
(c) In your second and subsequent years of retaining a tier, you have exactly 12 months to retain your tier, count backing back to your last review date. For example:
| Your previous review date | Your current review date | Time period to retain tier status | | 30 June 2011 | 30 June 2012 | 12 months | | 31 December 2009 | 31 December 2010 | 12 months | | 31 October 2010 | 31 October 2011 | 12 months |

Will I earn more tier miles on a ‘Skywards Flex’ ticket?
Yes. You will always earn more tier miles when purchasing a Skywards Flex fare.
Can I qualify for Silver or Gold by flying a certain number of sectors?
No.Tier qualification is based purely on tier miles flown. On all shorter routes, you earn a minimum amount tier miles (either 1,000 or 2,000 tier miles on a return trip), ensuring you have every chance to achieve the required tier miles if you travel frequently.
